Shahrah-e-Faisal to Baldia Town By Linked Things
Karachi is a complicated city of 25 million plus and without any organized public transport. Millions of its citizens use motorbikes to commute across the city. We took one of our in-house developed low-cost #AirQuality #Monitors on a 22km journey on a #motorbike on a route that is taken by hundreds of thousands of people everyday at peak traffic time. The ride is not only long, on bad roads and traffic jams, it is harmful for the lungs.

Karachi, a city of more than 25 million people, faces immense transportation and environmental challenges due to the lack of an organized public transport system. Millions of residents rely on motorbikes for their daily commute across congested roads and heavy traffic conditions. To better understand the impact of urban pollution on commuters, Linked Things deployed one of its in-house developed low-cost Air Quality Monitors during a 22-kilometer motorbike journey across one of the city’s busiest routes at peak traffic hours.
The experiment highlighted not only the physical challenges of long commutes on damaged roads and traffic congestion, but also the serious health risks caused by prolonged exposure to polluted air. Real-time air quality data collected during the ride demonstrated how daily commuters are continuously exposed to harmful pollutants that can severely impact respiratory health. Through innovative IoT-based environmental monitoring solutions, Linked Things aims to create awareness, support data-driven urban planning, and contribute towards building healthier and smarter cities.
